Haury & Smith relishes role as Cool Springs pioneer

It’s hard to imagine now, but in 1984, Cool Springs was vacant farmland and CoolSprings Galleria was not even in the planning stages. Brothers Reese and Steve Smith saw the area’s potential and began Brentwood Pointe, the first condominium development in Brentwood, and Morningside, the largest active adult community in Williamson County.

Today, Haury & Smith, the company owned by the Smith family for more than 60 years, is wrapping up its last residences in both communities. Since breaking ground, the company has built and sold 892 homes with a tax base of $240 million. And Cool Springs has become one of the country’s fastest-growing areas.

Reese Smith III, CEO of Haury & Smith, and Steve Smith, chairman of the board, recently shared their vision for Cool Springs with Tennessean contributor Bill Lewis.
