Bob’s Tip for July: Clean refrigerator coils 0 Post a comment

Clean the refrigerator coils once or twice a year.  This can help with the efficiency of your refrigerator.  Check beneath the kick plate or behind the refrigerator for the coils.  They tend to attract scum buildup that can hinder performance.  Use a handheld vacuum to clean them up.

Bob’s Tip for June: Have you tested your GFI outlets? 0 Post a comment

Have you tested your GFI outlets?  The ground fault circuit interrupter (GFI) outlets should be tested once a month.  These are installed mostly around wet areas in the kitchen and bath.  Just push the test button and make sure the device trips and resets correctly.  This is quick and easy, but worth the time to make sure they are working properly.

A. Parks of Morningside talks about his experience with Haury & Smith 0 Post a comment

For several years when visiting our daughter who lives in Franklin, Tennessee, she would take us to areas that were considered “senior friendly.”  We wanted this move to be our decision and not one due to some medical emergency. Some places were too expensive, others were too small and did not have the amenities we were looking for.  Since we were downsizing, we were looking for wall space inside for our antique furniture, no yard upkeep, maintenance free on the structure outside with reasonable HOA fees, and pleasing street appeal where each unit would have its own distinct personality.  We also wanted a patio and a double-covered carport.  We desired to be near shopping areas, medical facilities, churches, easy access to the Nashville airport since we travel often and near our daughter who would eventually be our caregiver.  We spent much time in prayer seeking God’s direction in this very important decision.

Replace smoke detector batteries every year 0 Post a comment

Replace the batteries in smoke detectors every year. Remember that even hard-wired smoke detectors have backup batteries that must be replaced.  Don’t wait for the annoying chirping that lets you know the battery is low.  Make sure your home and your family are safe!  If you have never replaced the batteries, it’s time now!
